Claude Design is Anthropic's design tool. Open Design is a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) app that works the same way — a chat plus a canvas where you prompt, see the design, and keep refining until it's exactly what you want — but it runs on the AI model you choose.

Setup

Download the desktop app for macOS or Windows from open-design.ai or GitHub Releases (Linux: run it from source, see the README).
Open it — it detects the coding agents already installed on your PC.
Type your brief, then keep prompting on the canvas until the design looks right.
Export it, or hand the HTML to Claude Code / Cursor to keep building.

Honest "free": the app is free; the AI behind it is what costs — your existing subscription, your API credits, or nothing if you run a local model. Open Design also sells optional hosted-model plans; the Free plan works with your local agent or your own keys.

Open Design is a community project by nexu-io — it's not made by Anthropic.
